Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Kamran Lashari has directed the environment wing of the authority to re-advertise bidding for Rs 200 million Capital Compost Plant, officials said on Wednesday. Earlier, the contract was awarded to SAF Group of Companies on Rs 100,000 per month on rental basis to recycle the waste of Islamabad. It was also learnt the SAF Group had declined to agree with the CDA to also collect the garbage of the federal capital for decomposing purposes besides establishment of compost plant near Kurri Road.
In this regard, a high-level meeting was held here under the supervision of CDA Director General Environment Mazhar Hussain, which was also attended by Director Sanitation Mustafain Kazmi and other concerned officials of the wing.
Talking to Business Recorder, the Director Sanitation said the CDA had decided to re-advertise bids for setting up compost plant as well as collection of capital's garbage for recycling.
He said the SAF Group had been apprised about the Chairman's decision regarding collection of garbage in Islamabad one year back but they disagreed with authority's proposal.
Mustafain Kazmi disclosed the CDA had also told the SAF Group that it would pay all expenses within three years to the company to purchase the required vehicles' and pay their diesel and maintenance expenditures too.
He said that now contract for the compost plant would be given to those who agreed on the two segments: collection of garbage and establishment of compost plant. The SAF Group contended that waste collection and setting up of the plant was not financially viable for the company so it had decided to withdraw from the project, Kazmi added.
