The NWFP Senior Minister Siraj-ul-Haq has called upon the survey team of World Bank, to ensure early submission, of their promised Economic Report, related to 90 million dollars financial assistance to the province under Structural Adjustment Credit (SAC-III) programme. This would enable the provincial government to accommodate it in its fiscal budget for the next year according to its developmental priorities. He was talking to Paul Wade, Senior Economist of WB deputed for compiling the economic report of NWFP who called on him at Civil Secretariat Peshawar on Monday.
Provincial Secretary for LG&RD Baz Muhammad Khattak, Secretary Establishment Muhammad Hamayun and Provincial Reforms Co-ordinator Ahmad Hassan Khan were also present on the occasion.
Paul Wade lauded reforms and steps of MMA government for improving social sectors. He also assured an early submission of the promised Economic Report, and provision of the financial assistance of Rs 5.2 billion as well.
Siraj-ul-Haq however expressed concern over delay in implementation of SAC-III saying that people had certain expectations with World Bank and provincial government in this respect. He expressed confidence that the survey team would play result-oriented and decisive role for this purpose.
He said that WB team and provincial authorities had to burn midnight oil for achieving the desired goals, so that relief could be provided to the poor, backward and unemployed people of the province.
He said that non-payment of hydel net profit, coupled with the non-declaration of a new NFC award from centre, had badly hampered the socio-economic conditions of the poor masses. Its negative impacts were also seen on overall prosperity of the country. He said that only effective and down-to-earth endeavours could rectify the plight and could provide relief to the masses and the image of national and world bodies could be enhanced.
The senior minister said that the provincial government, in order to get better results, has considerably reduced the volume of developmental schemes, dropped new projects and focused on completion of the ongoing schemes. However, ultimate results and success could only be obtained through provision of timely and sizeable resources for this purpose.
He said that the provincial government has taken solid steps for improving social sectors, and expanding scope of service delivery from cities to rural areas to make it available at local levels.
