About 45,000 intending Haj pilgrims would directly be airlifted to Madina by PIA's special flights from next year, said Minister for Religious Affairs, Ijaz-ul-Haq. The Minister, who is currently on a visit to Saudi Arabia, in a meeting with his Saudi counterpart, Fawad Farsi in Jeddah proposed that Pakistan should be allowed to directly airlift a specific number of pilgrims to Madina. Ijaz-ul-Haq said this proposal had been acceded by the Saudi government and now about 45,000 pilgrims would directly be brought to Madina through PIA. He said these pilgrims would, however, return from Jeddah airport after performing the Haj.
Similarly, he said, those pilgrims would land at Jeddah airport would return from Madina airport after performance of the Haj.
He appreciated the Saudi government for increasing accommodation space from 3 meters to 3.5 meters for Pakistani pilgrims.
The Minister also discussed new Umra policy with Saudi Haj Minister in the meeting.
Later, Ijaz-ul-Haq met with Saudi Minister for Information Ayad Madni and discussed bilateral relations between the two countries.
They also discussed ways and means to enhance the co-operation in the information sector.
