District Nazim Lahore, Mian Amer Mahmood has said that the City District Government Lahore (CDGL) is going to launch a special drive against encroachments in Shah Alam Market from May 11. He was addressing a meeting of traders' representatives at Town Hall, here on Saturday. Amer said that chief engineer of Lahore development authority, town municipal officer Ravi Town, DO revenue and representatives of CDGL would conduct survey at Shah Alam Market on Tuesday, to identify such commercial buildings that were constructed/refurbished illegally and against the bye-laws.
The construction of basement and additional floors on the old commercial buildings without proper technical consultancy can also cause loss to precious lives. The substandard and illegal constructions are a threat and may cause any mishap, he added.
President Anjuman-e-Tajiran, Haji Maqsood Butt, President Super Shahalam Market Shahid Bila, additional director general LDA, director administration and SP City were also present on the occasion. The meeting decided that 25 organisations of traders in Shah Alam Market would be bound to remove encroachment in front of shops within next two days.
District Nazim also appealed to the general public to lodge complaints against illegal constructions. Expressing concern over storage of huge quantity of fireworks in the basement of plazas in Shah Alam Market and other areas, he asked the traders' representatives to create awareness among the traders dealing in pyrotechnics, and adopt measures to check any untoward incident.
Responding to trader's demand, he directed the secretary RTA to put greater restrictions on the bus route to Shah Alam Market. Proposing a fire fighting station at Shah Alam Market, he said the traders' community has agreed to pay 20 percent of the total cost for setting up a fire fighting station, while the city government would pay the rest.
