Pakistan will ask the Chinese Premier to approve 600 MW Thar coal power projects (300 MW each) and for sending back the Gomal zam dam contractors to resume work on the project, official sources told Business Recorder. "Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz will take up both issues with his Chinese counterpart, requesting him to approve the much delayed Thar coal power project and ask contractors to restart work on Gomalzam dam," sources said.
The strategy was finalised at an inter-ministerial meeting under the chairmanship of Liaquat Ali Jatoi, Minister for Water and Power, here on Monday and attended by Sindh Minister for Mines and Mineral Development Irfan Ullah Marwat, federal secretaries and Pakistan's Acting High Commissioner in China.
According to Sindh Minister for Mineral Development informed the meeting that the provincial government had spent Rs 3.00 billion on the infrastructure for Thar coal power projects while Wapda officials said that it was spending Rs 5.5 million on the construction of transmission line of 500 kV.
Sources said that the meeting participants were worried about the indifferent behaviour of the Chinese authorities.
"We are pursuing the issues actively and hoping encouraging outcome," said an official.
