The Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued notices to Deputy Attorney General (DAG) of Pakistan and Advocate General (AG) of Punjab and directed the respondent government to submit the report by April 06 pertaining to stove burst incidents since 1996 and steps taken to stop them. The court passed these orders in a petition filed by a senior member of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) M.D Tahir praying to the court to direct the respondent government to take action against stove manufacturers responsible for making substandard stoves.
The petitioner had filed the petition in 1996 and the respondent government in its reply had contended that such incidents were not occurring mainly due to substandard material used in manufacturing of stoves.
On Monday, a section officer appeared before the court on behalf of Home Secretary and on a court query, he submitted that requisite had already been submitted before the august court.
When the court asked him to intimate that what steps had been taken to check stove burst cases, he failed to give satisfactory reply.
The court, therefore, directed him to submit a report about steps taken by the government to stop such incidents and adjourned for the day.
