The Capital City Police Lahore (CCPL) apprehended 5,918 proclaimed offenders (POs) and court absconders during the first quarter of the current year, while 747 members of 160 criminal gangs were also arrested, while looted and stolen property worth Rs 109 million was also recovered. This was stated in a meeting held under the chairmanship of City Police Chief DIG Tariq Saleem to review performance during first quarter of the current year.
The meeting was informed that during the special campaign against criminals, 160 gangs were busted, and 747 members of these gangs were arrested. These criminals confessed committing 1,541 cases, including nine cases of dacoity-cum-murder, 16 of murder, 52 of dacoity, 379 of robbery, 366 of burglary, and 719 other cases. The stolen and looted property recovered during first quarter of the current year, including Rs 2.5 million in cash, 6 kg of gold ornaments, four trucks, one jeep, six pickups, etc.
The police rounded up 2,334 proclaimed offenders during this period, out of which 119 were wanted in murder cases, 182 in attempted murder, 29 in dacoity, 101 in robbery, 146 in burglary, and 1,557 in other cases.
Likewise, 3,584 court absconders were also arrested, out of which 10 were involved in murder cases, 112 in attempted murder cases, 22 in dacoity, 66 in robbery, 201 in theft, and 3,173 in other cases.
During the campaign against illegal weapons, 2,416 cases were registered and 2,417 accused were arrested. The police also recovered a large number of weapons, including 6 Kalashnikoves, 89 rifles, 141 guns, 453 revolvers, 1,563 pistols, 80 carbines, 44 mousers, and 8057 bullets.
Similarly, 2806 cases were also registered against drug-pushers, and 2,838 accused were arrested and a huge quantity of drugs, including 11-kg heroin, 763-kg charas, two-kg opium, and 2,848 bottles of liquor were seized.
Moreover, 327 cases of gambling were registered, and 998 accused were arrested and stake money worth over Rs 1.3 million was recovered.
Meanwhile, DIG Tariq Saleem has directed divisional SPs to further intensify the campaign against out-laws in order to minimise the crime rate, and keep a vigilant eye on the history-sheeters.
