Eid-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW) would be observed in the country on Friday (April 22) as the first day of Rabi-ul-Awwal 1426-Hijri is likely to commence from Monday, the April 11. Pakistan Meteorological Department spokesman informed here on Monday there was no chance of sighting the new moon of Rabi-ul-Awwal 1426 Hijri in the evening of April 9 and would be visible on April 10 subject to the confirmation by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
Therefore, the first day of Rabi-ul-Awwal would fall on Monday, April 11.
As such, Eid-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW) would be observed in the country on Friday (April 22), the spokesman said.
Elaborating the technical aspect, he informed threshold values of astronomical parameters were essential for the possibility of sighting the new moon of Rabi-ul-Awwal.
The age of new moon should be more than 26 hours at the time of twilight for sighting the new moon whereas this time it is calculated to be less than 18 hours throughout the country. The minimum duration of the new moon after sunset should be more than 41 minutes whereas at this occasion, it is less than 40 minutes all over the country.
As such the conditions for sighting the new moon of Rabi-ul-Awwal on April 9th 2005 are not completely consonant with all parameter. Therefore, in all probability for the first day of Rabi-ul-Awwal would start from April 11, on Friday.
He further said the information issued by Meteorological Department is also aimed to facilitate the moon sighting committee with technical data in order to achieve reliable and accurate results and further to intimate people of Pakistan living in and abroad for planning their programmes accordingly well in advance especially for the Holy months.
