The rupee gave up it weekend firmness against the dollar in the open market on Monday, showing five paisa loss on the buying and selling counters at Rs 59.75 and 59.85, moneychangers said. According to the market sources, there was no major demand by the corporate sector, on the other hand dollar selling by the exporters helped the rupee to retain its levels. They said that it seems that the rupee-dollar parity is likely to move in a narrow band in the coming days.
The rupee also did not move either way in terms of the euro for buying and selling at Rs 77.10 and Rs 77.40, respectively.
In the world markets, the US currency was firm versus the leading currencies in cautious trading, dealers said and expected that the dollar may maintain its steadier trend ahead of the speeches by the US federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan.
INTERBANK RATES: The rupee maintained its weekend levels versus the greenback at 59.39 and 59.41 for buying and selling, respectively.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee opened the week on a negative note, as it lost its value by 07-paisa on buying side at (Rs 59.72) and 05-paisa on selling side at (Rs 59.80) in relation to the greenback in the local currency markets on Monday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar resumed trading at Friday's closing rates of Rs 59.65 and Rs 59.75 on buying and selling counters respectively. In the wake of buying spree, the dollar's rates improved and at the close, the dollar was traded at Rs 59.72 and Rs 59.80 on buying and selling counters respectively, the dealers added.
On the contrary, the local currency appreciated its worth against the pound sterling. The British pound was traded at Rs 112.50 and Rs 112.80 on buying and selling counters respectively, as compared to Rs 112.80 and Rs 113.20 of last Friday, the dealers added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The buying and selling rates of dollar against the rupee remained unchanged at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Saturday.
The dollar opened at Rs 59.70 (buying) and Rs 59.80 (selling) against same last rate. It did not observe any further change in the second spell and closed at Rs 59.70 (buying) and Rs 59.80 (selling).
Pound sterling opened at Rs 112.90 (buying) and Rs 113 (selling) against same last rate. It did not observe any change in the second spell and closed at Rs 112.90 (buying) and Rs 113 (selling).
