Internet service provider, Paknet, has launched a new service whereby by dialling a specific phone number the user gets a password and login number, getting automatically connected to internet service. The user can surf for two hours anytime of the day at cheap rates. Paknet chief executive Mueen Sadiq Malik told a press conference here on Monday that the service was unique and provides easy access to internet specially for remote areas where scratch cards is not readily available. Dr Zafar, planning executive, was also present.
According to him, 500 persons are already using the facility. Their number is expected to go manifold because of its usefulness and easy access to internet.
He informed that every person who has a dial-up number and internet facility can avail it without buying a scratch card.
Internet charges of the facility will be added in the PTCL bill at a cheap rate of Rs20 per hour.
He said the service provides facility to ordinary users to become internet customer by just making a telephone call to number: 0900-77718.
Malik said the service is specially beneficial in remote areas where usually internet scratch cards are not available. In fact, there will be no need for customers to buy scratch cards, he added.
He said that as service provider, Paknet is encouraging use of information technology and providing education at the grassroots level in remote areas including Chitral, Turbat and Khuzdar at low rates.
Mueen Sadiq Malik added that Paknet is internet service provider in more than 2000 towns and cities, holding 25 percent of the market share with more than 250,000 customers. He pointed out that PTA has registered 150 internet service provider companies.
He said the government wants to increase the number of DSL service provider in the country.
He said charges for the DSL bandwidth will be reduced from the existing rates if more companies entered the market. He stated that more than 40 percent Korean internet users are using DSL services.
He informed that Paknet has reduced its rates for DSL services to provide better services to more customers. Paknet's DSL service is operational in 12 cities of the country.
He said feedback from the DSL service, which was launched by the company two months back, is normal but in some areas, it is facing losses.
