imageISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Friday reserved its verdict in Pakistan Steel Mills Employees Union case seeking directions for payment of salaries to employees before Eid.

The division bench of the apex court headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan heard the case filed by People Worker's Union of PSM.

During the course of proceedings, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan remarked that the apex court do not take too much suo-moto notices after 2014. He remarked that the apex court do not want to derail the system.

Barrister Ali Zaffar counsel for the petitioner pleaded the court to direct government for implementation of ECC decision in letter and spirit and to take such other actions as may be in the best interest of PSM, to enable PSM to achieve its targeted capacity utilization of 77 per cent.

In order to save PSM from imminent destruction the notice from Sui Southern Gas Company be declared unlawful. The government be directed to appoint competent persons in the Board of Directors of PSM and the post of CEO PSM to take it out of the current impass.

Ali Zaffar pleaded the court that the government be directed to settle all their liabilities toward and provident and gratuity funds and replenish the same by depositing outstanding and current monthly contributions and repaying the outstanding loan relevant mark up into the funds.

Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan remarked that no doubt the apex court is the guardian of the Constitution but it cannot act beyond jurisdiction.

Later, the court reserved its verdict after hearing arguments of counsels.
