The Anti Narcotic Force (ANF) has planned to establish 'Modern Addiction Treatment Centres' in Quetta and Islamabad.
The treatment centres will start work during this year, Director Demand Reduction Anti Narcotic Force (ANF), Anwar Hafeez said.
"ANF is planning to launch an awareness campaign against the menace of drugs. An 'NGOs Support Programme' will be initiated to help reduce demand and supply of drugs in the country. The workers of NGOs would be offered training abroad to help minimise narcotic use" he told PTV.
ANF was also contemplating to start a study to seek magnitude of help of women in reducing demand and supply of drugs in the country, he said.
There are 4 million drug addicts in Pakistan. While 0.5 million are heroin addicts in the country, he said.
According to a report of International Narcotic Control Board (INCB), 75 percent poppy was being produced in Afghanistan. With the help of donor countries, a plan was initiated from 1985 to 2003 to eliminate poppy cultivation in Pakistan.
The INCB has declared Pakistan a poppy cultivation free country ahead of schedule in 2001, he added.
