Inbox Business Technologies have taken the lead initiative to offer wireless connectivity for business travellers via making leading hotels across Pakistan into hotspots.
According to company's spokesman on Friday, the travellers who are equipped with notebook computers, which has integrated wireless LAN capability, as available with 'Intel Centrino' mobile technology can now truly experience "anytime, anywhere" computing phenomenon.
At present, there are 14 hotspots enabled by Inbox across the country and the company is aggressively working on making more public locations into hotspots this year.
These hotspots are an increasingly popular way to work and play while on the go. Basically a hotspot is a place where one can access Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) Internet service, ie, without having wires connected to your notebook.
Inbox Business Technologies Chief Executive Officer Ghias Khan said the customer response can be gauged by increased number of people sitting in hotel lobbies in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad working on their notebook computers while having an informal meeting."
He also said that the notebook computing is on the rise in the country and both the corporate and consumer segments are realising the importance and the freedom of being mobile.
"Once you're wireless, a new world is open to you and suddenly, it's not just about being able to move freely around your home or office, its beyond that, as more and more people join the ranks of the untethered, new public WLAN hotspots are popping up all the time," Intel Pakistan Corporation Country Manager Kamil Hasan said.
He said the mobile computing is one of today's fastest-growing trends as businesses begin to embrace the concept of "anytime, anywhere" computing.
Hasan said there are about 30,000 hotspots deployed across the world at a wide variety of public meeting areas, including coffee shops, hotels and airport lounges.
He also said it is heartening to see Inbox take the lead initiative and enable hotspots in leading hotels and educational institutions across the country.
