Chairman Parliamentary Committee for Water Resources, Nisar A. Memon has said that the committee would prepare its recommendations taking all the stakeholders into confidence, and justice would be done with all the provinces in water distribution.
He stated this while addressing a high level meeting here on Friday, which was also attended by the Punjab Minister for Irrigation, Aamir Sultan Cheema, Farmers Associates of Pakistan (FAP) representative Farhatullah Khan, Punjab Water Council representative Hameed Malhi, Aiwan-e-Zaraat representative Azam Cheema and others.
Nisar Memon maintained that water was the biggest problem in the country, and we have to work jointly with sincerity for creating consensus for strengthening the water resources of the country. 'Water was meant for everyone and the committee in its recommendations would do justice with everyone', he said.
He stated that the committee would not rely to satisfy chief ministers of all the provinces only for water distribution. Rather it would be the priority of the committee, to satisfy public of all the four provinces through creating consensus.
'We should not repeat mistakes of past and it would be our effort to prepare recommendations after taking all the stakeholders into confidence', he said.
Nisar further said that the parliamentary committee has launched a website so as to keep public informed of its performance. He added that nothing would be kept secret from public and they could send their suggestions to the committee also through accessing to this website.
Earlier, members of the committee led by Nisar A. Memon called on the Governor Punjab, Lieutenant General Khalid Maqbool (Retd). They briefed the governor about the performance of the committee. Talking to the committee members on this occasion, the governor expressed his pleasure that it was working in the right direction.
He added that the masses were hopeful that the committee, which comprised of representatives from all the four provinces, would succeed in creating consensus over water distribution.
