The local manufacturers of polyester staple fibre (PSF) have increased the price by one rupee per kilogram. The new prices, to be effective from Saturday (May 1), will be Rs 75 per kilogram instead of Rs 74 per kilogram.
The price increase was conveyed to the buyers on Friday.
The slight increase of one rupee a kilogram has been made after three months when the fibre prices were stable at Rs 74 a kilogram.
Meanwhile, sources in the international market have predicted that the polyester prices could be increased by higher raw material costs due to the anticipated rise in oil prices.
The emerging textiles, an international authentic website said in a report that the prices of polyester filament yarns slightly rebounded in China during the past seven days, while the PSF prices remained unchanged.
It said that the prices of polyester filament yarn increased by about 100 Uuan in the past week in China due to stronger demand from downward processors.
The average price of PSF did not change in China because of a low level in spun yarn production. Prices of imported PSF ranged between 99 and 101.50 US cents.
Since cotton prices are now falling, the gap with the PSF prices is rapidly decreasing. From 94 US cents by the end of February, Chinese spinners lowered the price difference to 80 cents this week, reducing fibre substitution.
