Provincial Minister for Industries, Commerce and Investment, Muhammad Ajmal Cheema, has said that all necessary arrangements have been finalised to construct grand industrial zone at Sunder near Lahore and work on this industrial estate would be started in June.
While talking to a delegation of industrialists of Lahore, the minister said that allotment of plots would be started in July and these allotments would be made purely on merit and first-come-first-serve basis.
He said that possession of plots would be given to industrialists after providing all necessary facilities.
He said that the government is trying to bring about the industrial revolution in the province with co-operation of private sector and incentives are being given to the investors for the promotion of export culture in the province.
Moreover, Secretary Industries Punjab, Fayyaz Bashir, told newsmen that the Industrial Policy 2004-05 has been prepared with major focus on rapid industrialisation and investment.
He said that the Punjab Industries Department had submitted the draft policy to the Chief Minister for final approval.
He said, under the new policy likely to be announced next month, 25 percent of the plots in the industrial estates would be reserved for the overseas Pakistanis.
He said that the projects of Agro-based Export Processing Zone, Sargodha and Textile City Faisalabad were also being launched soon.
For this purpose, he said, the Punjab Industries Department had recommended the formation of the companies like Punjab Industrial Estate Management and Development Company (PIEMDC) for the execution of these projects.
Khurram Iftikhar and Afaq Tiwana have been nominated to head the Textile City Faisalabad Company and Agro based EPZ Sargodha Company, respectively.
He said that Punjab Small Industries Corporation (PSIC) had proposed the development of new small industrial estates in Gujrat, Muzaffargarh, D.G. Khan, Toba Tek Singh and Rahim Yar Khan.
Responding to a question, he said the contract for the development of roads in the Multan Industrial Estate had been awarded.
