All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) Chairman Syed Ali Gilani on Monday reiterating Kashmiris' stance conveyed the message to the world community that elections in Indian occupied Kashmir could not be a substitute to Kashmiris' legitimate right to self-determination.
Talking to PTV by telephone, he said elections were not solution to the core issue of Kashmir.
The APHC chief said it was demand of all Kashmiri people that the issue must be resolved according to wishes of its people which was clearly mentioned in the resolutions of the United Nations' Security Council.
He said Kashmir issue was a disputed issue and it should be resolved in its historic background.
Gilani said no elections could be free and fair in occupied Kashmir in the presence of about 800,000 Indian troops. To hold elections in occupied Kashmir could not establish that the region was not disputed as well as it would not help in resolving lingering issue of Kashmir, he added.
The APHC chief said the polling booths in the second round of the sham elections in occupied Kashmir gave a totally deserted look, adding during the elections, the situation gave a civil curfew-like look and people stayed in their houses.
He said Kashmiris responded to the APHC calls for strike, and boycotted the bogus elections in an effective manner.
Gilani said the strike was observed in whole occupied Kashmir to protest against the so-called polling.
The polls boycott and the strike once again conveyed a message to the world community that Kashmiris once again rejected any political move under Indian constitution, he added.
