Sindh Chief Secretary Dr Muttawakkil Qazi said on Tuesday that sale of adulterated or substandard edible items was a religious and legal crime and those found indulged in such practices would not be spared in any case.
Qazi expressed these views while talking to a group of journalists who called on him at his office.
The journalists expressed their concern on the news of sale of adulterated and substandard wheat flour in some areas of the city.
Taking immediate notice of the complain, Chief Secretary directed the Deputy Secretary Co-ordination to contact Provincial Secretary Food Mir Muhammad Mir Bahar and to direct him sending report to CS within three days after conducting investigation.
Chief Secretary told the journalists that every edible item including wheat flour undergoes laboratory test and added that any person found involved in any kind of adulteration or sale of substandard food item, is dealt with iron hands.
He informed that whether it is poor performance of food department or sale of substandard edible items, both are considered as crimes.
Meanwhile, following the instructions of Sindh CS, a letter was issued to Director Food Sindh Dr Tanveer Qureshi regarding complaints of sale of substandard and adulterated wheat flour.
