The Karachi Stock Exchange hits a new record of highest turnover on Friday. The total turnover surpassed the previous record of 960.788 million shares in the ready market by achieving 1,122.497 million shares, said Moin M Fudda, Managing Director of KSE.
The KSE's 'homegrown' software, implemented in 2003 which could virtually provide unlimited trading terminals, on Friday successfully proved its effectiveness and efficiency by managing this turnover within the same standard response time.
The KSE-100 Index, with inclusion of OGDC, has now become a more precise barometer of the market, since OGDC is one of the most liquid scrips, as witnessed from the fact that Friday's 197.8 million shares were traded in OGDC alone, which itself was a record of highest traded volume in a single scrip.
Fudda said that professional management of the Exchange is primarily focused towards its core responsibilities including ensuring fair trade practices, managing such huge volumes and monitoring of Risk Management including timely collections of margins against exposure and monitoring capital adequacy.
The management of the Exchange, under the direction of its Board of Directors, is making best possible efforts to make the market more transparent in line with the best international practices, in consultation and co-ordination with the Regulator.
It was heartening to see that all reforms and operational & technical advancements had made it possible to witness such records achieved by the Exchange in terms of turnover and activity.
The KSE 100 Index stood at 5582.28 points having market capitalisation of Rs 1,489.458 billion and, since January this year, it rose around 25 percent, concluded Fudda.
During the session, following were the top 10 leaders in terms of market capitalisation:
