A first-ever 2 days Indo-Pak Heart Summit, bringing together top cardiologists from the two countries, is scheduled to be held in Amritsar on April 4-11.
The problems commonly faced by the cardiologists of the countries as well as the new developments in the field of cardiology would be discussed at the summit, executive director of the institute Dr Naresh Trehan told the newsmen.
The Indo-Pak heart summit would be the starting point for a joint research programme to probe into the reasons for the increasing rate of coronary heart diseases in South Asian regions
Dr Trehan pointed out that people in the two countries shared the same genetic make-up and hence it was no wonder that pattern of heart diseases in the two countries was the same. Around forty heart's specialists from Pakistan are expected to take part in the conference.
Outstanding cardiologists from India and Pakistan would address the delegates at the summit covering various topics like acute coronary syndrome and strategies for prevention of coronary heart disease.
