Fourteen people were killed and 38 injured Wednesday when a bus plunged into a river during busy rush hour traffic in southern China's Sichuan province, state media said.
The Xinhua news agency said the Fuxi river crash near Zigong city was caused by brakes and steering failure.
The bus driver, who survived by jumping from the vehicle before it plunged into the river, has been detained while an investigation is underway, Xinhua said.
According to official figures, China recorded 667,507 accidents last year, leaving 104,372 people dead, making Chinese roads some of the most dangerous in the world.
