The main emphasis of the Institute of Women Development Studies University of Sindh to promote education and create awareness among the rural women for their rights.
Mazharul Haq Siddique, vice chancellor of Sindh University stated this while talking to Dr, Christa Wichterich consultant of a German-based institute, during her visit to University to evaluate the progress of the ASR Lahore Project for the women studies at the Institute of Women Development Studies, University of Sindh.
Replying the question of Dr Christa, the vice chancellor University of Sindh said that the ASR is helping to the IWDS in the academic programme.
He informed the scholar that the Institute of Women Development Studies was established by the University in 1984 and since its establishment the institute has arranged several training programmes, workshops, seminars and conferences to provide a forum to the women for their education, training and awareness.
He further informed that the recently three faculty members of the IWDS have also joined the 90 days refresher course at ASR Lahore.
The vice chancellor on this occasion also highlighted the services of three German Scholars Dr Ernest Trump, Dr Annemarie Schimmel and Mrs Elsa Kazi for their contribution.
The visiting guest Dr Christa Wichterich appreciated the steps were taken by the University specially women development and advancement of the rural women by the IWDS.
She expressed hope that with the continuous and sincere efforts the goals for the development of the women could be achieved through better education and improvement in living conditions in the society.
She informed that the institute which is part of the University has started the M.A classes in multidisciplinary Gender Studies and started the work for the conducting the research work for the problems faced by the women in our society.
She further informed that the institute under core program has developed and started work for short-term three months certificate courses of 12-weeks duration under the MoU between the University of Sindh and the Institute of Women Studies.
Dr Christa Wichterich also visited the offices of the Institute of Women Development Studies, Museum, Galleries and Library of the Institute of Sindhology and different department of the various faculties.
