National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain has stressed the need for setting up hospitals and modern laboratories for the poor and needy persons in every nook and corner of the country with the collective co-operation of philanthropists and well-off persons.
Speaking as a chief guest at the opening ceremony of Professor Yousaf Memorial Diabetic and Diagnostic Centre on Sunday here, he said the establishment of hospitals and laboratories in the country are dire need for providing inexpensive medical treatment and facilities of various tests.
Chaudhry Amir Hussain lauded the efforts to set up modern diabetic and diagnostic centre in Sialkot, saying it is heartening to note that this centre would not only provide inexpensive test facilities to the people, but also provide free medicines to the poor and needy diabetic patients.
The NA Speaker called upon the well-heeled persons and philanthropists to come forward and set up hospitals and laboratories for minimising the miseries of poor and needy persons, adding the government single handedly could not fulfil its responsibilities unless the wealthy persons come forward and share the burden of the government.
Undoubtedly, the government is committed to discharging its responsibilities to provide ultra-modern health cover to the masses, but at the same time, the collaboration of well-to-do persons is need of the hour for reducing burden of the government, he suggested.
Chaudhry Amir Hussain called upon the philanthropists in general and business community of Sialkot in particular to extend their full co-operation and financial assistance to the hospitals and laboratories enabling them to work in ailing humanity.
He paid rich tributes to (late) Professor Muhammad Yousaf for his meritorious services in the field of journalism and education and called upon the journalists community to follow the footsteps of Professor Yousaf for the future success. Sialkot Tehsil Nazim Muhammad Akmal Cheema also addressed the ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Javed Foundation Chairman Muhammad Akhtar pledged that Foundation would hold free medical camps in rural parts of Sialkot district.
Earlier, the NA Speaker inaugurated the Professor Yousaf Memorial Diabetic and Diagnostic Centre.
