Sindh Chief Minister Sardar Ali Mohammad Maher on Sunday presided over a high-level meeting at the Chief Minister House where development projects of Sindh were discussed in detail in connection with the National Economic Council (NEC) to be held in Islamabad on Monday.
He said the Sindh government with the co-operation of the federal government has got several projects approved for Sindh that would, after completion, improve the economy of the province and bring prosperity, adding Karachi is the biggest city of Pakistan where people belonging to all four provinces live in great number so that its problems would be solved on priority basis.
Maher said the Lyari Expressway and K-III (100 mega gallon water supply to Karachi per day) are the mega projects under way in Karachi that would benefit masses to a great extent besides, Northern Bypass and other schemes were also under way.
The Sindh chief minister said the renovation of irrigation and drainage system in Sindh, strengthening of branches, watercourses and minors, project regarding comprehensive usage of Thar Coal mining resources for power generation will be discussed at the National Economy Council session.
Besides, provision of funds for Cadet College, Ghotki, reduction in water losses and other schemes are also included.
The session was informed that Lyari Expressway will cost Rs 2,871.652 million, and it will be completed by January 2005. In the Phase-I of the project, some 13,843 residents will be given substitute 80 yards plots and Rs 50,000.
As many as 40 percent of the people have been given plots while 16-km out of 32.1 km has been cleaned, levelled and tracks were constructed.
Sindh Planning and Development Minister Shoaib Bukhari, Sindh Chief Secretary Mutawakkal Kazi, Karachi Nazim Naimatullah, Additional Chief Secretary Ghulam Sarwar, Finance Secretary Israr Shaikh, DCO Karachi Mir Hussain Ali, Project Director Lyari Expressway and the principal secretary to chief minister attended the session.
Later, the Sindh chief minister flew for Islamabad where he would attend the National Economy Council session.
