Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali has said that his government believes in politics of decency and tolerance, and asked the people to promote political culture in which democracy can be made workable and strong.
He said: "It is 21st century and people should behave as responsible citizens by rendering sacrifices for the country."
The Prime Minister, who was on a day's visit to Larkana on Saturday, was speaking at a luncheon function hosted by Sindh Revenue Minister Altaf Hussain Unnar at Ali Abad (Dokri).
Jamali said that political differences "do not mean that we forget decent values, which we ought to pursue as human beings". He said it was an era of people's power and those in politics should strive for resolving their problems.
Addressing tribal sardars and chieftains, he said that their authority as feudal chiefs was their undisputed right, but they should not forget their people.
He said that his government was doing a lot to alleviate poverty and several mega projects had been launched to improve the living standard of people.
The Prime Minister recalled that Larkana was known for producing men of calibre earned reputation at national and international levels.
He listed among them Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Ayub Khuhro, Kazi Fazlullah and many others, for serving Larkana and its people.
He said the main purpose of politics should be service to the people and not to promote personal ambitions and self-interests.
Referring to the demands for gas supply, electrification, and early completion of a bridge over Indus between Larkana and Khairpur, the Prime Minister said he would ask Sindh Chief Minister and Sindh Minister Altaf Hussein Unnar for suggestions in this regard.
He said that it was his duty to redress the problems of the people and for this maximum effort would be made at all levels.
Jamali said it was the duty of the electorate to bring right people at the helm of affairs so that they solve their problems. The Prime Minister said that he had been in office for 15 months and it was his policy not to interfere in provincial affairs, except where it was very necessary.
He said that Sindh Chief Minister Ali Muhammad Mahar had his full backing and he was confident that he (the CM) would solve problems of Sindh.
PRIME MINISTER STRESSES ELIMINATION OF GENDER GAP: Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali said that education "enjoys highest importance" in the 21st century. Speaking as chief guest at the 12th Annual Parents' Day at Cadet College, Larkana, he pointed out that today far better educational facilities are available in the country and the present government had doubled the budget for education.
He said the youth would be equipped with higher education to lay the foundation of progress and prosperity of the country.
He said the parents were rendering sacrifices to help their children attain knowledge. But they need to be imparted education which could meet the country's requirements.
The Prime Minister particularly called upon the students to do specialisation in education.
He referred to the establishment of first University for Women in Balochistan and said that country's 50 percent population consists of women and they need to be given attention when it is the question of education. Jamali emphasised that for education there should be no distinction of men or women. The women can equally play a significant role towards development of the country, he added.
The Prime Minister advised the students to fully focus on their studies. He said that Larkana has produced a large number of political personalities including Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Ayub Khuhro and Kazi Fazlullah, to mention a few of them.
He noted that Larkana is a hub of politics and education of Sindh whereas Hyderabad is centre of social activities while Shikarpur and Sukkur are commercial and trading centres. But, he said, "no matter which area we may belong to, our aim is to serve the cause of the people".
The Prime Minister, referring to demands made by Cadet College Principal S.M. Yusuf said that financial assistance would be provided to help complete the college's squash court and auditorium.
