The local Police have arrested one of the governors of Afghanistan province in Taleban era, Maulvi Abdul Manan, on Saturday.
Maulvi Abdul Manan was travelling in a vehicle, which was intercepted by the police, and he was arrested along with one of his companion. A tip-off lead to the arrest of the Taleban leader, sources said.
The police have also claimed to have recovered a Kalashinkov rifle and Pakistani National identity cards (NIC) from Manan's custody.
Some reports suggested that there were more than one person with the name of Maulvi Abdul Manan, who served on key-posts during the Taleban government in Afghanistan.
However, police officials, on condition of anonymity, have confirmed that the arrested one was once the governor of one of the Afghanistan provinces. Further investigations are under way.
Last week, the police, in a campaign launched against the illegal refugees in the city, have arrested about 85 Afghans, including 30 students of religious seminaries.
