The Punjab University has dismissed from service five employees of the Examination Branch for tampering with the results of MA Economics Annual Examination 2002.
Earlier, an enquiry committee founded them guilty and recommended their dismissal from the service.
The irregularity was detected by the university authorities and brought to the notice of the vice chancellor, who immediately ordered an enquiry to complete its investigations in a week.
Registrar Colonel Masud-ul-Haq (Retd) also heard the view of the accused employees before announcing their dismissal.
Those dismissed from the service included junior clerks Khalid Saleem, Sajjad Ijaz Ahmed and Ghulam Mustafa, Administration Officer Mohammad Siddique, and Assistant controller Ijaz Ahmed, who was working on contract after his retirement.
Scrutinisers Riaz Muhammad Qadir, Muhammad Saleem, Rasheed Ahmed and Rafique Chughtai were also found involved in the case and have been relieved from their duties.
While the increments of Assistant (MA Hall) Muhammad Shafique have been ceased for three years. Assistant (Form Section) Mukhtar Ahmed and Assistant (Awards) have been given warning while junior clerks Kamran Ahsan and Ghulam Murtaza were acquitted of the charges, as no evidence was found against them.
Vice-chancellor Arshad Mahmood has directed the UMC branch to submit a report within two weeks for declaring the results of the students, whose results were tampered, null and void.
He reiterated his resolve to root out corruption from the university and has formed a team, which will counter-check every result before as well as after the announcement of results.
