The NWFP Senior Minister, Siraj-ul-Haq on Wednesday informed the provincial assembly that government was making 15000 fresh recruitment in the police force to bring further improvement in law and order situation of the province.
He disclosed this while winding up debate on law and order' situation in the province in the NWFP Assembly.
Siraj-ul-Haq said the strength of police force in NWFP is less than the requirement and with fresh induction the law and order situation will further improve.
The new recruitment, he continued, will be done in phased manner and will be completed soon before commencement of the next session of the provincial assembly, he informed the house.
In the first phase 5000 officials will be inducted and the remaining in the second phase, he said.
About present strength of police force in the NWFP, the Senior Minister said, is 31,000 which, he continued, is equal to the strength of law enforces in Karachi city.
Responding to the concerns expressed by the parliamentary leaders of different political parties on law and order situation Senior Minister admitted that law and order situation was not satisfactory in the province.
However, he added, it was far better than the situation in other provinces of the country the federal government has also commended the law and order situation of NWFP, he said.
Siraj also commended the performance of NWFP police and said that 100 percent control on crime is not possible even in civilised societies. He also pointed out that unemployment and poverty as reasons for increase in crime rates.
He also assured the members that all their suggestions presented during debate on law and order would be given due consideration.
He said government believed in taking opposition into confidence on all issues and for this purpose the suggestions for Police Reforms have so far not been sent to the federal government.
We were waiting for nomination of the leader of the opposition in the house and now both the government and opposition would jointly chalk out suggestions for police reforms.
Leader of the opposition, Shezada Gastasip and MPAs Bashir Ahmad Bilour, Abdul Akbar Khan, Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani, Murid Kazim, Muzaffar Said, Nighat Orakzai, Nasreen Khattak and Yasmin Khan also spoke on the issue.
