Robots are coming and there is nothing you can do about it, we are not talking about some apocalyptic scenario, but a very real employment loss that occurs when a robot replaces human beings.
Foxconn Technology, a Chinese tech firm has replaced 60,000 human workers with robots in a single factory, according to a report in the South China Morning Post.
China, which has been very active in automation, is a world leader in industrial robot sales, witnessing a rise of 16pc in 2015, as per International Business Times. Foxconn is more popularly known as Apple’s largest contract manufacturer, and has also been subjected to criticism over the treatment of its workers and for a series of worker suicides.
“The Foxconn factory has reduced its employee strength from 110,000 to 50,000, thanks to the introduction of robots,” Xu Yulian, spokesman for Kunshan city, told the Post. “It has tasted success in reduction of labor costs ... More companies are likely to follow suit,” he added.
Industrial automation is a growing trend around the globe that promises, which has raised concerns over how to deal with the idle labor that is created by replacing low level or semi skilled workers with robots.
Nike Inc, the athletic wear giant. In 2014 shed 106,000 jobs in 2015 by shifting Asian contract production to other more modern factories, which uses automation.
