imageImagine a world where remaining anonymous in public, becomes a thing of the past. This might not sit well, but it is already a reality, all thanks to a new app developed in Russia.

According to the Guardian, the ‘FindFace’ app allows users to identify anyone from their profile picture using only a photograph, with 70 percent accuracy. The app launched just two month back, has become very popular, on back of its unique algorithm.

Now, coming to its working the app compares photographs to profile pictures on Vkontakte, a popular Russian social network, with more than 200 million accounts. Findface has been able to amassed almost 500,000 users in matter of weeks and has processed nearly 3 million searches, according to its founders, Artem Kukharenko and Alexander Kabakov.

The primary purpose of this app is pertained for dating, “If you see someone you like, you can photograph them, find their identity, and then send them a friend request,” said FindFace co-founder Kabakov.

However, the simple facial recognition technology can be use for many more things than just dating. It has huge implications in marketing and law enforcement, as the app founders claimed that they have been contacted by police, saying they started loading suspect or witness photographs into FindFace and came up with results, as per Daily Mail.

“It's nuts: there were cases that had seen no movement for years, and now they are being solved,” said Mr Kabakov. The loss of public anonymity is more likely to twist the social fabric mysterious ways.
