Pakistan former leg-spin great, Abdul Qadir has advised Pakistan all rounder Shahid Afridi who quit as Pakistan T20I captain following dismal performance in the ICC World T20, to say goodbye to international cricket as well.
According to Times of India, Qadir known for his candid comments said at a function in Lahore that Afridi had aged and was no longer fit for top level cricket.
"I don't think cricket is any longer the forte of Afridi and he should say goodbye," Qadir said.
Newly appointed Pakistan’s Chief Selector Inzamam-ul-Haq on Monday announced that former T20 captain Shahid Afridi, Ahmed Shehzad and Umar Akmal were dropped over discipline issues and are unlikely to become part of the England squad.
He said, Afridi, who announced he would continue playing the Twenty20 format after resigning as captain in the wake of the event, needed to perform in domestic matches. "Since we are playing only four Twenty20 matches this year we want to give new players a chance, and that will also allow Afridi to rest and perform in domestic matches," Inzamam said at a news conference in Lahore.
Afridi had resigned from captaincy after Pakistan failed to put up a decent show in the World T20 in India, but recently, he announced that he would play county cricket in England this season in a bid to prove his form and fitness.
Pakistan will play four tests, five one-day internationals and a Twenty20 international on a two-month long tour of England.
