ISLAMABAD: The Standing Committee on Housing and Works on Thursday pproved PSDP of M/o Housing and Works for financial year 2016-17 amounting to Rs.27,663.675 million to be spent on 123 schemes to be executed through Pakistan Public Works Department (Pak-PWD).
The Ministry proposed 124 projects amounting to Rs.27,665.863 million, however, the Committee directed for exclusion of one project relating to provision of tube well in pm Camp office (Sanghar House), Tehsil Gujjar Khan amounting to Rs.2.188 million which was approved but remained unfunded during financial year 2015-16.
Meeting of the Standing Committee on Housing and Works was held in Parliament House, under the chairmanship of Haji Muhammad Akram Ansari in the chair to discuss/scrutinize budgetary proposals relating to the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) of Ministry of Housing and Works for the financial year 2016-2017.
The Committee while going through the PSDP proposals, observed that delay in execution of work on the schemes resulted in PC-I revision, cost escalation and over-burdening the national exchequer.
The Committee directed the Ministry to timely award the work on projects in order to avoid wastage of public money.
The Secretary M/o Housing and Works apprised the Committee that delays in releases by the Ministries of Finance and Planning was the basic cause behind the late execution and escalation of cost of the projects.
He said that he had time and again taken up the issue with both the Ministries, however, the issue remained unresolved.
The committee decided to call representatives of Ministries of Finance and Planning in its next meeting to sort out the issue. The Committee also directed the Ministry to prioritize the maintenance of government owned residential accommodations and government building maintained by Pak-PWD.
NA body on Housing also sought the cost difference for construction of roads from National Highway Authority, Provincial Highway Authority and Pak PWD in the next meeting.
The meeting was attended by MNAs Rajab Ali Khan Baloch, Sahibzada Faiz-ul- Hasan, Ghulam Muhammad Lali, Nasir Iqbal Bosal, Tahira Aurangzeb, Nighat Parveen Mir,Faqir Sher Muhammad Bilalani, Sajid Nawaz, Molana Ameer Zaman, Iqbal Muhammad Ali Khan,Ghulam Sarwar Khan, Secretary M/o Housing, Director General (Pak-PWD) and other senior officers of the concerned departments.
