Lumia, which has become a synonym of Microsoft Mobile, the phone making subsidiary of Microsoft is all set to vanish all together.
The parent Microsoft Corporation, after facing years of financial obstacles in its mobile business has, as per various rumors, finally decided to release the ‘Last Lumia’ device – the Microsoft Lumia 650.
Nokia, the former handset giant founded the brand for its Windows-powered smart-phones in November 2011. Nokia released many Lumia models of different price ranges including the expensive Lumia 920, as well as economic offerings like the Lumia 520. Before, passing its ownership to Microsoft in 2014, that saw the Windows-maker purchase the entire handset business of Nokia.
According to The News Independent, Microsoft which remains a major player in the field of technology is looking to scrap the Lumia series of devices for good. The move comes after disappointing sales of Lumia, which have fallen by over 50 percent in 2015 as compared to 2014.
According to Motley Fool, Windows Phone accounted for merely 3.6 percent of the smart-phones shipped globally. That figure fell to under 2 percent in the third quarter of last year. Microsoft has been intentionally trimming down its smartphone offerings in recent months.
However, the end of Lumia may not mean the end of Windows Phone. Microsoft will now focus their efforts on the development of ‘Surface Phones’.
The upcoming Last Lumia, the Lumia 650, which is slated to be released this month, will feature a 5.5 inched screen, along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. The phone is also expected to come out with a Snapdragon 410 SoC, it is expected to carry a 3000mAh battery and is expected to come out with a full metallic body.
