image‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, the seventh chapter of the lucrative Star Wars saga, is turning out to become the biggest Box Office hit as it expects to join the coveted US$2 billion club at the global box office today.

According to CNN, in doing so ‘The Force Awakens’ would become only the third film in box office history to reach US$2 billion around the world, a milestone accomplished by ‘Avatar’ and ‘Titanic’ in 2007 and 1997, respectively.

It has also become the only film in history to reach the US$900 million domestic (USA) milestone, taking only 50 days of release for The Force Awakens to achieve the mark. The film directed by J.J. Abrams toppled Avatar's record domestic box office of US$760.5 million in January to claim the all-time top spot.

"The film's achievements are truly astounding, and it's our great honor to relaunch this cinematic galaxy not only for all the devoted decades-long fans but for a new generation who will keep the Star Wars legacy alive for many years to come," Alan Horn, chairman of the Walt Disney Studios said in a statement.

Beside the achievements mentioned above, ‘The Force Awakens’ has set numerous records broken according to Box Office Mojo, including:

Fastest film to gross US$1 billion – 12 days

Biggest worldwide opening weekend and single weekend gross – US$529 million

Highest-grossing ‘Star Wars’ film, to date.

All we could say is, things just keep getting better for the House of Mouse
