iPhone users are told not to open a scam text that appears to be sent by the company, as it tricks people into sharing their personal details
According to Ashford Herald, in the latest row of viruses, the fraudulent message tells users that their account has been frozen and they should validate their iTunes account to avoid suspension.
The malicious web address is disguised using a link shortener , therefore, it appears to say 'iTunes
iPhone users are being warned not to open the link as it contains a major virus, one should simply delete the message instead. A statement on the company’s website explains the dangers of the malicious messages.
“The iTunes Store will never ask you to provide personal information or sensitive account information (such as passwords or credit card numbers) via email,” it read.
“Email messages that contain attachments or links to non-Apple websites are from sources other than Apple, although they may appear to be from the iTunes Store. Most often, these attachments are malicious and should not be opened,” it said.
The mail further added, “you (user) should never enter your Apple account information on any non-Apple website.”
The latest scam comes ahead of Apple’s upcoming press event where the Cupertino tech is expected to unveil its latest iPhone and iPad. Previously, Apple has sent out virus email and text warnings from con artists who claim to be the popular digital media store.
