naveed_qamar_HYDERBAD: Federal Minister for Water and Power Syed Naveed Qamar has said that unprecedented heavy rainfalls have badly destroyed the economy of Sindh province and there is the need of foreign donor agencies to come forward and generously donate to Pakistan so that the government could be able to carry out relief and rehabilitation of rain affected people of Sindh.

President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah have already made appeals to international community to help Pakistan in respect of relief and rehabilitation of the affected people, the minister said this while talking to media persons after meeting with the Chairman National Disaster Management Authority Zafar Qadir here on Saturday.

This year, the minister said that Sindh province is receiving unprecedented rainfalls which played havoc in number of districts including Tando Muhammad Khan.

He said that the government alone is unable to carry out effective relief and rehabilitation of rain affected people of the province and there is dire need of financial assistances from the international community.

As a result of continuing heavy rainfalls, the minister said that major portion of District Tando Muhammad Khan has been inundated causing heavy losses to properties and standing crops of the people.

The government has so far provided Rs. 50 millions for relief and rescue work in the district, however, the district administration is facing difficulties in carrying out the rescue and relief work in effective manner due to continuous rainfalls, he added.

He said that 50 thousand families of the district comprising 2,50,000/- people have been affected so far as a result of heavy rainfalls which also destroyed the standing crops.

The minister later visited the rain affected areas of Tando Muhammad Khan where DCO Syed Barkat Ahmed Rizvi briefed him about the losses, casued by the heavy rainfalls.
