imageISLAMABAD: Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Thursday brushed aside the impression that there was any political involvement in distribution of funds under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) to the needy.

"I do not agree that the BISP has turned into a political fund, rather the programme is helping the needy across the country without any political affiliation. There is no political input," he informed the Senate in reply to a question of Samina Abid.

Speaking on behalf of the Finance Minister, Abbasi said there was no role of any parliamentarian, politician or party workers in distribution of the funds as only BISP staff had the authority to identify the deserving people and handing over financial assistance to them in a transparent manner.

He said there was always room for improvement, for which the BISP administration was working to remove flaws, if any.
