imageLAHORE: A trade mission led by Ambassador of Belgium in Pakistan Verheyden Frederic met Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, here on Wednesday.

Matters of mutual interest, promotion of trade and economic relations and prospects of increasing of cooperation in various sectors were discussed in the meeting.

Talking to the delegation, Shehbaz Sharif said that best friendly relations existed between Pakistan and Belgium, however, there was a need of enhancing trade cooperation between both the countries and exchange of trade delegations between should be continued regularly.

The CM said that Belgium was an important member country of European Union and Pakistan wanted to promote trade relations and increase cooperation in various sectors with Belgium. He said that vast opportunities existed for enhancing cooperation between Punjab and Belgium in information technology, dairy farming, protection from floods, irrigation, energy and infrastructure sectors, adding that Pakistan wanted to get benefit from the experience and expertise of Belgium in these sectors.

Shahbaz Sharif said that digital monitoring system had been introduced for improving performance of government departments. He said that a conducive atmosphere had been provided to foreign investors for investment in Punjab and facilities were being provided to them on priority basis.

Shahbaz Sharif said that the challenge of terrorism and extremism was being dealt with an iron hand for promotion of investment. He said that political and military leadership of Pakistan were at one page for elimination of terrorism.

Ambassador of Belgium Verheyden Frederic speaking on the occasion said that Belgium wanted to promote trade and economic cooperation with Punjab government. He said that every possible step would be taken for enhancing cooperation in various sectors. He said that Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif was working with commitment for the welfare of the people of the province.

Provincial Ministers Dr. Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Khalil Tahir Sandhu, Advisor Dr. Ijaz Nabi, Chairman Planning & Development, Secretary Food and Chairman Punjab Investment Board were also present on the occasion. Heads of companies associated with various sectors were included in the trade mission of Belgium.
