ISLAMABAD: State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmed on Thursday informed the National Assembly that tender for repair of Chakdara to Mingora road was awarded in December 2014 and 90 per cent work on 26 Km portion has already been completed.
Replying to a Calling Attention Notice raised by Mussarat Ahamd Zeb regarding dilapidated condition of Chakdara to Mingora road, the minister said that contract has already been awarded. However, work could not be resumed due to bad weather.
He conceded that road was in dilapidated condition and has 135 km length.
The minister said that construction and repair of road network was the prime responsibility of National Highway Authority. He said that an NHA member and a general manager were stationed in every provincial headquarters to facilitate member of national assembly.
He also assured the House that inquiry should also be conducted into the matter and shared with the honorable member.
Later speaking on a point order, Mussarat Zeb said that earlier the road was carpeted. However now TST material was being used to repair the road, he added.
She clarified that 70 km road from Mardan to Chakdara was being constructed with the Saudi Government assistance.
Murad Saeed of PTI said that Swat was a tourist spot and despite raising the said road issued, no concrete step was taken in this regard.
He said that no fund was even allocated for the road in annual development project.
Syed Wasim Hussain while speaking on a point of order said that women were being debarred to cost votes in local bodies elections in KPK. He said that the constitution guaranteed equal rights to both men and women. However, the constitutional rights were being denied to the women folk, he said.
He urged that re-election should be held in areas where women were stopped from casting their votes.
