imageLAHORE: Member of UK Parliament and Minister of State for International Development Desmond Swayne, with a team from Department for International Development (DFID) Pakistan visited Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) on Friday.

The members of the delegation included Head of DFID Pakistan Richard Montgomery, Provincial Head of DFID Punjab Ben French, along with other important dignitaries.

The meeting presided over by Chairman PITB Dr Umar Saif aimed to develop healthier relationship between the two government departments. During the meeting Dr. Saif gave a detailed presentation on the e-governance and m-governance initiatives taken by PITB for the public welfare. Highlighting the success stories of PITB and the challenges faced during the course of time, Dr Umar Saif said, "E-governance and m- governance relies on good back office ICT infrastructure and work processes, which PITB has successfully launched across the province of Punjab.

Apps built by PITB have enabled stake holders to receive real-time data which can be counter checked instantly. Through this, we are able to engage citizens and professionals more efficiently."

Desmond Swayne while showing keen interest in PITB's success appreciated the efforts being made by PITB to enable the government to reach out to the masses successfully. He said, "DFID is dedicated to bringing a positive change and support nations that need opportunities to prosperity and a better world. We are glad to see such really exciting developments and an environment of infectious enthusiasm at PITB. It's simply magnificent. We really look forward to collaborate with them in future endevours."

He further said "DFID Pakistan aims to reduce poverty and help build a prosperous and stable country. DFID is funding many organizations who are working to end poverty through open competition. DFID looks forward to collaborating with PITB in future endeavors to build an educated, free-of-poverty and flourishing country."
