ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Thursday discharged contempt of court notice against Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan as he appeared in-person before the court and presented unconditional apology.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad was summoned by the bench comprising Justice Noorul Haq N Qureshi and Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui for some remarks in a letter to his subordiantes.
The IGP was summoned in a case pertaining to bail after arrest of a man from whom 10. 2 kilogram narcotics was seized but sample was not representative of total quantity of narcotics.
During the course of proceedings, IGP while presenting his unconditional apology stated that he respected the judiciary and whatever he had said was unintentional as he never ever intended to defame judiciary.
The IGP apprised the bench that he had assigned an office for monitoring narcotic cases in order to overcome the flaws while registering such cases related to narcotics.
He also informed the court that the Islamabad police were going to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government which would allow police to conduct narcotics related tests in just Rs 1,000, he added.
While accepting IGP's unconditional apology discharged contempt notice against him and exempted IGP from personal appearance.
