imageISLAMABAD: Former captain Aamir Sohail has said that either Muhammad Hafeez or Sarfraz Ahmed should be made next captain of national cricket team as both are fit for the position.

He said Sarfraz was the natural heir to Misbah-ul-Haq who had announced his retirement prior to the World Cup 2015. "If Sarfraz is not ready now then make Mohammad Hafeez should be made captain for a year with the former vice captain," Aamir said while talking to a private news channel.

He said removing Hafeez from Twenty-20 captaincy and appointment of Shahid Afridi was not a right step at that time. "Players power can only be countered if the management is strong," he said.

Speaking about Pakistan's quarterfinal defeat, Aamir said even the team had scored 260 plus runs, it would not have won the match because of dropped catches. "A score of 250 puts a pressure on the opposition which that of 213 does not," he said, adding Australia could not be challenged with 213 on the board.

Aamir said teams such as Australia, whose palyers bat down to No 9, could chase such scores with ease. "We must appreciate the effort put in by Misbah-ul-Haq in the way he made the team fight with aggression," he said.

He said,"We are still playing one day internationals like in medieval times. "Our batting lineup does not have the talent," he said.

Aamir said a player, who scored a hundred in the United Arab Emirates, felt that he was a top player. Those at the helm of affairs should judge the real abilities of players before selection, he added.

Aamir said there was no other bowler in the team to assist Wahab Riaz.
