MIRPUR: A total of 19 candidates filed their nomination papers for the By-election to LA-III Mirpur city seat of AJK Legislative Assembly scheduled on March 15.
The candidates who filed their nomination papers with the Returning Officer, Additional District & Session Judge Mirpur Chaudhry Sajaad Hussain by the stipulated hours on the last day- Wednesday included PTI AJK Chapter's nominees and former Prime Minister AJK Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry and Yasir Sultan, ex City Mayor Chauhdry Mohammad Ashraf, former AJK Minister Arshad Mahmood Ghazi, former FPCCI and former AJKCCI President Ch. Muhammad Saeed and Shujah Haider Lodhi of PML (N), Syed Nishat Hussain Kazmi Advocate of Jammu Kashmir Peoples Party, Nouman Akram of Jamaat-e-Islami AJK, Qayyum Qamar of Muslim Conference, Ejaz Raza of PPP AJK, Sardar Ejaz Nazir, a former President Mirpur District Bar Association, Azeem Dutt, Mirza Javed Iqbal of PPP, Naheeb Thaker, Ch. Jamil Tabassam, Muhammad Ikhlaq of JUI, Nazir Aasi and Khalil Yousaf and Jehanzeb.
February 18, was the last date for filing of the nomination papers for jumping in to the scheduled bye-election.
Final list of the candidates contesting the elections will be displayed on February 28, 2015.
The seat LA-III Mirpur City had fallen vacant after the former AJK Prime Minister, Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry resigned from the Assembly seat leaving the ruling PPP AJK fold and joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
