Pakistan Captain Misbah-ul-Haq needs to opt the aggressive attitude of Imran Khan to steer the glory of Pakistan, said former pace bowler Shoaib Akhtar.
Very few would have guided Pakistan to win the showpiece event 23 years ago, but Khan’s young squad fought back from imminent exclusion in the opening round to defeat England in the final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
According to local media reports, Rawalpindi Express said, “The Pakistan team is passing through a very difficult phase after having also lost Muhammad Hafeez. The onus is now on Misbah to set the tone with frontline performances. Imran lifted a deflated side in 1992 to win the World Cup with some great frontline performances. I hope Misbah can do the same with this troubled side.”
Unfortunately this time, the preparation of our talented players has been hit by injuries including all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez and paceman Junaid Khan, and the unavailability of leading spinner Saeed Ajmal due to an illegal bowling action. Though Saeed Ajmal has cleared his biomechanics tests but has been pulled out of Pakistan´s World Cup squad.
Former captain Muhammad Yousuf described Pakistan´s dilemma as ‘a crisis situation’. But Rashid Latif says that the team is capable of going deep into the tournament if Misbah rallied his squad together, local media reported.
Pakistan will initiate their World Cup campaign aligned with arch-rivals and defending champions India in Adelaide on February 15.
