NEW YORK: The dollar on Thursday fell to its New York session low against the yen, below 79 yen, as traders remained on high alert for Japanese intervention.
Japan intervened during Tokyo and London trading hours, buying dollars and euros against the yen. Traders said Japan has so far backed away from intervening in North American trading.
The dollar slipped to 78.932 yen, the session low in New York on trading platform EBS, still up more than 2 percent on the day. It surged as high as 80.250 in the wake of Japan's intervention.
