Pakistan’s first warm-up match against New Zealand, Shahid Afridi smashed 67 off 29 balls to help Pakistan recover from a bad start and reach 210 batting first in Saturday’s ODI against New Zealand.
Put into bat, Pakistan lost their opener Mohammad Hafeez (0) to the fifth delivery of the day and kept losing wickets to slump to 127 for six in the 36th over. But Shahid Afridi and captain Misbah-ul-Haq lifted the total to 210 with their decent play.
Afridi blasted nine boundaries in his blistering knock to go with three sixes, the third bringing up his fifty before Adam Milne dismissed him in the 44th over. Misbah, who was content playing second fiddle to Afridi, perished in the 42nd over trying to accelerate, falling to Grant Elliot who claimed 3-26 and was the pick of the Kiwi bowlers, foreign media reported.
Afridi threatened to take Pakistan to a decent score, while other experienced players like Mohammad Hafeez and Younis Khan began as poorly as they could.
Shahid Afridi and Misbah-ul-Haq will be playing their last World Cup in a coming month. Pakistan team is leaning heavily on both the star players.
