KARACHI: The Special Immunization Campaign against Polio in 11 High Risk union councils (UCs) of Karachi concluded here on Friday and will be followed by a mop exercise on Saturday.
Sources from Karachi Commissioner office said, missed cases will be covered during the mop-up so as to ensure 100% coverage of under five children against the existent 96pc.
During the past three days 709 polio teams covered 15,256 children in UC Songal; 7914 in UC Manghopir; 2396 in UC Gajro; 8331 UC Ittehad Town; 4528 in UC Chisti Nagar; 2717 in UC Firdous Colony; 4452 in UC Islamia Colony; 5399 UC in Muzaffarabad; 6585 in UC Muslimabad; 5672 in UC Chakar Goth and 4154 in UC Meherehri.
During the campaign children were administered both oral as well as injectable vaccines to ensure optimum protection of these children against the crippling disease.
The special immunization campaign in these 11 UCs will commence again after 15 days as per plan the exercise would continue till May this year.
Following this exercise these UCs will be covered under regular NIDs and SNIDs schedule planned for the metropolis in general.
