Pakistani fast bowler Junaid Khan has been ruled out of World Cup squad for initial two matches with New Zealand.
According to local media reports, PCB said that the 25-year-old suffered a hamstring injury during a short conditioning camp ahead of the World Cup in Lahore last week. Junaid will not leave with the team to New Zealand, where Pakistan team will play two ODIs against the co-hosts.
Chief selector Moin Khan said Bhatti’s inclusion for the World Cup would depend on his performance and Junaid’s fitness. Junaid Khan has been replaced by all-rounder Bilawal Bhatti in the national squad on the request of captain Misbah-ul-Haq.
According to ESPN, PCB said, Junaid complained of pain in the right thigh and elbow after a fall during the conditioning camp on January 15. “On re-examining Junaid's condition, Pakistan's physiotherapist Brad Robinson and PCB's head of medical and sports sciences Dr Sohail Saleem concurred that he had not recovered sufficiently from the traction injury of the nerve in the posterior right thigh and recommended recuperation at the NCA”.
