KARACHI: Two top nations of the continent, India and Pakistan are not sending their men's cricket team for XVII Asian Games schedule to be held in Incheon (South Korea) from September 19 to October 4.
However Pakistan will be defending their women team gold which they won at Guangzhou (china) in 2010.
"Cricket has elicited lukewarm response from the full International Cricket Council (ICC) members of the continent for the upcoming continental extravaganza," said a report published on Incheon Asian Games website on Monday.
"For upcoming 2104 Asian Games, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will be sending both men and women's cricket teams," it has been mentioned on the facebook page of the Games. "As for Pakistan, they will be sending women's cricket team only," it adds.
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already decided that it would not send any team (men or women) to the quadrennial pan-Asian sports spectacle.
India had not sent any team for the Games in the previous edition four years ago at Guangzhou, China, where cricket made its debut.
According to Asian Cricket Council. South Korea, Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand have entered teams for women's contest while South Korea, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Malaysia, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka are sending men's teams.
