imagePESHAWAR: The arms seized from the militants after fierce clashes with the security forces at Sonai Darra a Pak-Afghan border village in Upper Dir district were presented, Monday before the media-men.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Imran Shaikh, DPO Javed Khan and Col. Aqeel Malik, Spokesman for ISPR jointly briefed the media about the seizure of the arms

. The arms confiscated included hand grenades, kalashnikoves and thousands of cartridges of different bores.

The security forces had information about entrance of some terrorists in the district from Kunar province of Afghanistan and as such the security was put on high alert, they said.

In the meanwhile an IED blast was carried out on August 4 in the area but no loss to life was reported.

Similarly on the night between August 8 and 9, the terrorists attacked the residence of a Qaumi Razakar and killed four civilians.

The security forces and the local population promptly responded to the attack and killed three terrorists in the cross fire including an important commander identified as Qari Usman alias Abu Bakar.

He was commander for Dir Upper district for Tehrik e Taliban Swat chapter.

They said that the security forces, police, political leadership and people of the district are on the same page and it was due to their support and cooperation the security forces secured a big victory against the militants in the district.

Responding to a query, Deputy Commissioner Dir Upper said there would have been the rule of Taliban in Dir Upper district had the border areas were not secured by the forces. "We have a long and difficult border with Afghanistan," he said adding the security forces successfully secured the border against foreign intruders.

We are dealing with the people in accordance with Pushtoon culture in the area and take every decision with the consultation of the elders and elites of the district.

DPO Javed Khan informed that Qari Usman was wanted in different criminal cases including terrorism and bomb blasts.
